White Belt with Yellow Stripes Trumps Pink Belt

Imp was in judo last year at one martial arts studio here in town, but we halted her participation for a while when the baby came along.  (In just a few months, I won’t be able to call her “baby” anymore!  Where does the time go!)  We eventually left that studio and found another one that we just love…minus one small detail.

They don’t have the PINK BELT RANK!

Apparently each studio has its own way to rank the little kids, and the new studio’s “pink belt” level is actually camouflage in color.  The impressive part about the new place, however, is that they made Imp feel proud and confident about her rank achievement.

Two weeks ago, the studio had a belt testing for the younger kids, and Imp progressed from her Pepto-pink rank to the much more dignified, much more subdued rank of “White-Belt-with-Yellow-Stripes.”  She had to complete the “Big Tiger Form,” know her kicks and punches, and do push-ups for two minutes.  You can see that Dad was there to coach her, and the sisters even got onto the mat to appreciate the festivities.  Watch out Hidden Dragon…here comes Crouching Tiger!
