The Time Traveler’s Daughter

Dear Daughter,

Your father has suddenly decided that he should be allowed to use the camera he received for Father’s Day.  The nerve of him!  How dare he!  Who does he think he is?  Doesn’t he know that I am the Almighty Supreme Ruler Her Royal Highness Her Excellency Regent of the New Camera?

Oh, that’s right, he’s the one who goes to work every day and brings home the money to pay for things.  Well, I help out a little by teaching part-time, but, for the time being, he’s the real bread-winner.  So, I guess I have to let him take over the Nikon from time to time.

Here are some great shots of you, Sadie, that he took when you were performing your cute faces for him.  If there was an Olympic event for camera posing, you’d take the gold, my dear.  And these are only about half of the shots.  Don’t know if he used the burst mode or not, but he managed to get some shots in quick succession, thus capturing your many moods.

You might look like your father, but you have your mother’s spiritedness and goofiness.  When I was a little girl—a very, very long time ago, nearly as long ago as the movies ET and Star Wars, which you’ll get to watch someday—I loved to pose for the camera.  My father—your Papa Genn—was doing some experimental photography at the time, and what better subject than a twirling, prancing little girl who was not shy in front of the lens?  And, of course, there were the obligatory nude-y kid shots, but mostly just lots of dancing and head-tilting and eyelash-batting.  There was even that time that your grandma and grandpa dressed me up for a Hummel look-alike contest.  Here’s a picture of the Hummel they chose.

I’ll have to look for the actual picture of me all dressed up and post it here soon.  In the photo I don’t look like a happy camper, but suffice it to say that I did like to pose for the camera.  I think I may have traveled forward in time and channeled all of my posing passion to you, my dear.  Keep smiling, and don’t forget to say “cheese.”

Love, Mom
