The Dogged Days of Summer
The end of summer in California—or at least the warmer parts—is not kind to the flora and fauna. The blush of spring has sprung, and the heat has wilted or scorched nearly all the plants and flowers, with the exception of those damned agapanthus. Ugh. I hate those ugly things. They are what suburban medians and housing developments daydream about.
So, although my lavender, my gaura, my lovely, buxomy hydrangeas, and even my heat-loving butterfly bush have all gone by the wayside, there are still a few roses left to cherish that haven’t been hit too hard. And there is always the greenery, in this case, our gorgeous ginkgo tree that captures the sunlight in its branches and disperses it through its yellow-tipped, fan-shaped leaves.

Wow! The ginkgo has sure grown. Can’t wait for the beautiful yellow leaves to appear in the fall.
