Lost My Voice…Ah, There It Is

Well, here I am on the first day of my blog launch, and, ironically, I have no voice other than the one that reverberates off my fingertips in little taps and clicks.  I have been very sick with a sinus infection for the past few days, and it has finally culimated in me losing my voice.  A bad thing for a college instructor (sorry, class is cancelled tonight), but a potentially hazardous condition for a mother of three rambunctious little girls.  Well, two of the three are visibly rambunctious, but the third is just a wiggling, kicking, punching creature in my belly right now.

I know that this little one inside me can already hear and respond to my voice, so she’s probably completely confused about why Mommy isn’t screaming as her four-year-old sister steals an apple slice from the two-year-old or why Mommy hasn’t yelled out, “Stop grabbing the dog by the throat!” for the tenth time today.  Our little unborn one is used to a little chaos, as is every child who is on the back-end of the sibling countdown, I’m sure.  She responds assertively, stretching and poking her little appendages out to test the elasticity of my belly; I’m not sure whether her shots are intended to be supportive of me and my frustrations or whether she is throwing out some jabs so she can be “one of the girls.”  Hm.

Regardless, here I am, and I am ready and semi-willing to embark on this journey to document my life with two real-life daughters and one embryonic daughter and to share with the world (well, my microcosmic world of readers, at least) what challenges and rewards come with bearing and raising three little girls.

Bear with me for a second….I just heard thumping coming from the girls’ bedroom.  I investigated, and I found my oldest daughter naked in the middle of her room expect for her ocean-themed panties dangling from one leg.  The inevitable, “What are you doing?” flew out of my mouth immediately–it is 4:00 in the afternoon, for heaven’s sake–but I wasn’t quite ready for the reply.  I should have been, giving past experiences, but I haven’t heard this one before:  “Moooom, I’m getting naked so I can dance and see the intenstines on the outside.”  You tell me ’cause I’m not quite sure what that one means.

Anyway, welcome to my world, and please open your arms to me and my daughters being a part of yours.  We have much to share with each other concerning the mysterious world of an all-girl household, and I hope to learn something as well as offer a few experiences as well.
